We've just completed our last homeschool curriculum fair this past weekend.  We have enjoyed meeting people from all over the southeast this summer at various shows.  A special thanks to all who took the time to come over to our booth and learn more about our book.  We truly had a great time getting to know you better.  Next year we plan to branch out even more by visiting more cities and offering more products to help teach your kids the age old craft of woodworking.  Stay tuned!

Now that the book shows are over for a while I hope to dedicate more time to the website and putting out more videos.  We're going to start focusing on stationary power tools.  We'll cover setting up those tools, using them properly and safely, and building some jigs to get the most out of them.  If you have comments or questions about any of these tools email them to us at contactus@woodworkersresource.com and I'll try to cover the answer in one of the videos.

New Products At AWFS

There were several new products introduced last week at AWFS (Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers) for the hobbyist and small shop woodworker.  Here's a look at some of those products:

Steel City Tool Works is trying to ROCK your world!  Steel City Tools is coming out with a line of stationary power tools that's incorporating granite into the surfaces of some it's tools.  No, I didn't mistype that, their using granite to replace...more

There's no question that SawStop gets a lot of press.  No other table saw has had as much written about it in the past five years.  Most of what's written about it surrounds the braking system.  The real stumbling block with this saw is the price. At almost...more

Freud's Quadra-Cut router bits are a great improvement on a old design.  Working with end grain has always been a thorn in the side for woodworkers.  It tears out easier, burns easier, and is just difficult to get a smooth cut on.  Well, Freud has doubled your chances of getting a...more

I Have a Favor to Ask
If you have enjoyed watching our video podcasts and have found them informative and maybe even a little entertaining, I have a favor to ask.  Many people will go to the iTunes page of a podcast and check the reviews to find out what others are saying about it before they even bother to listen to it.  It would help me out if you would take the time to go to iTunes and give a review of our video podcast.  I'll make it a very simple process for you.  Click on the link below and it will take you directly to the page that our video podcast is on.  Underneath the picture and the description of the podcast is a place for you to leave your review.  If you use iTunes and haven't subscribed to our video podcast yet, you can do so while you're there as well.

If you don't have iTunes running before you click the link below your computer will probably tell you that you'll need to launch an external application to view the page, meaning iTunes.  Just agree and iTunes should launch and bring you to our page.

Thanks so much!

All Hands on Deck!

In our book, "Woodshop 101 for Kids" is a lesson on building a battleship.  In it, I encourage the builder to come up with their own design.  Well, I received an email from someone who definately took my advice and made a battleship of their own. Cody and his Dad built a battleship that is simply incredible!

Cody, you did a fantastic job in building your battleship.  It looks like it's ready to sail the seven seas.  I'm posting all the pictures your parents sent me to show others what a great job you did.  Cody's Battleship pictures

If you'd like to learn more about the book that Cody used to build his battleship you can learn more about at, Woodshop 101 for Kids.

Tips and Techniques

Annie&Ellie w/birdfeedersHere's a way to extend the time between sharpening your saw blades and bits.

After use, a saw blade will develop a coating of what's
refered to as pitch.  This pitch will affect the cutting of your blade if not removed.  I've read a lot of articles on different ways to remove pitch from blades.  To be honest, some of
them scare me, here's why...more

How to Subscribe to a Video Podcast RSS icon

I have been getting a lot of questions since we first introduced our video podcast about how to subscribe to our video, what RSS means, and why would anybody want to subscribe when it's available on the website.  Subscribing to our video podcast is easy, simply go to our website and look for the symbol that's in the picture above and click on it.  (You can even click on the picture above to subscribe.)  You'll then be taken to a screen where you can choose which reader you want.  There are many to choice from but the most popular are...more

SomBill and wifeeting to Make You Laugh

Mom and Dad were trying to console Suzie...
Mom and Dad were trying to console Susie, whose dog had recently
died.

"You know," Mom said, "it's not your fault that the dog died. He's probably up in heaven right now, having a grand old time with God."

Susie, still crying, said, "What would God want with a dead dog?"

That's it for this issue. Remember, send me those e-mails about what you want to see in future issues, nominate a fellow woodworker or yourself for the Featured Woodworker section, and send in any Tips and Techniques that you would like to share with us. Also, if you like what you see in this newsletter and you know of someone who would be interested in having it sent to them, simply click on the "Forward Email" button that's just below the newsletter. You can even add your own comments to the person before sending it.

So until next time, be safe in the shop!
